(2022) GETTING OUT OF AUTO – PHOTOGRAPHY IMPROVERS WORKSHOP 12/11/22, 09.00am

This course is aimed for those keen amateur photographers who have been using their camera in ‘Auto’, or have been trying to take control of their camera settings but having mixed results. During the 4 hour course you will learn, by primarily using Aperture priority, to take creative control of your camera. You will learn the relationship between Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO. This, with compositional advice and guidance, will help you make better images and give you the confidence to explore your own creativity.

We will be exploring a variety of compositions which will help to reinforce the learning you receive on the day and through the pre-course eBook which you will receive as part of the course cost.

This workshop focuses on the area along the River Wharfedale at Barden Bridge, Bolton Abbey, Yorkshire.

WORKSHOP KEY FEATURES AND WHAT YOU WILL GET OUT OF THE DAY

  • 4 hours tuition, tips and techniques on how to better compose your landscape photograph based on 15 years of landscape photography experience. There will be some walking involved at a moderate pace and some hills / inclines so there necessary level of fitness is required.
  • Dealing with composition, light, subject and timing.
  • Understanding and putting into practise the relationship between Shutter Speed, ISO and Aperture.
  • Supporting course material to help you to refer to as you develop your new found skills.
  • A supportive and engaging environment for you to learn.
  • A 16” x 12” professional print of your favourite landscape photo you took on the day for you to wow your friends and family with and hang on your wall!
  • Holding a BSc Hons degree in Geography you will also get a geological overview of your surroundings so you can fully enjoy and appreciate the beautiful scenery.
  • 4 hour courses for only £45.

 

WHO ARE THE COURSES FOR ?

These photography workshops are for beginners or those with some experience who are ready to move out of Auto settings and get to grip with their camera settings.

WHERE WILL THE COURSE BE HELD ?

The course will commence at Barden Bridge, Bolton Abbey, Yorkshire and will involve a 2-3 mile walk on trails from there to shooting locations.

WHAT TYPE OF CAMERA DO I NEED ?

A camera with the ability to set the various Aperture , ISO and Shutter Speed settings. Typically a Digital SLR or Mirrorless camera.

GROUP SIZE ?

Groups will consist of 5 students or fewer to ensure you get sufficient support from the workshop leader.

IS THERE ANY COURSE MATERIAL / LITERATURE ?

Yes, you will be supplied with PDF downloadable course notes designed to reinforce your learning from your workshop and act as a reference guide.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING ?

  • Suitable clothing to the conditions and waterproofs if rain is forecast.
  • An umbrella, dependent upon weather forecast.
  • Walking boots / shoes.
  • Camera / camera phone.
  • Tripod if you have one.
  • Manual for camera or have access to it.
  • Filters if you use them, but not essential.
  • Water bottle.

WEATHER ISSUES

I will look to shoot in all conditions, but these are are obviously not know at the time of booking. Weather can be unpredictable and I will ensure the route takes this into consideration. IF the weather conditions dictate that photography is not possible, or the conditions are dangerous, then I will have the final decision on the running of the workshop. This will be communicated as far in advance as possible and alternatives dates will be arranged.
